AVONDETTO AND SPECIA ROCK THE INTERNAZIONALI D'ITALIA, CLAIMING PODIUM SPOTS IN THEIR DEBUT

Updated: Mar 21

Some good news has arrived for the Wilier-Vittoria MTB Factory Team from San Zeno di Montagna (VR), where the first round of the Internazionali d'Italia Series took place. The XCO group returned home with a double podium finish, with Simone Avondetto securing 2nd place in the men's race and Giada Specia taking 3rd in the women's. Additionally, Ginia Lara Caluori secured a 5th place finish, earning her the lead in the special U23 athlete standings.

Avondetto put on an impressive performance, battling fiercely with the more experienced Luca Braidot on the spectacular and technical track in Verona. It was a convincing display, boosting morale and confidence ahead of upcoming events, particularly the first double-header World Cup event in Brazil in mid-April.

"It feels great to be competitive for the win again," said Avondetto. "It was a tough race, with a great battle against Braidot and Fontana. In the end, Luca had a bit more and managed to make the difference, but I'm happy with second place and eager to test myself again in the upcoming races.”

In the women's race, Specia claimed the final spot on the podium, behind Martina Berta and Chiara Teocchi, setting the stage for exciting competition in the coming months. Caluori continued her strong start, finishing 5th overall and as the top U23 athlete, while Sofie Pedersen secured a 9th place finish despite a puncture.

Meanwhile, in South Africa, the wait is over as the Cape Epic kicks off tomorrow, keeping Fabian Rabensteiner, Samuele Porro, and Daniel Geismayr busy until March 24th.
