GIADA SPECIA AND SIMONE AVONDETTO CLINCH ITALIAN TITLES IN SHORT TRACK!

The weekend got off to a great start for the Wilier Vittoria MTB Factory Team as they kicked off the third round of the Internazionali d’Italia Series in Nervesa della Battaglia (Treviso). On the first day of racing at the Montello circuit, Giada Specia and Simone Avondetto emerged as Italian champions in the short track event.

On the short but intense and muddy course in Treviso, Specia completed her race in 25’35”, comfortably distancing herself from her usual rivals Chiara Teocchi, who finished 26 seconds behind, and Martina Berta, who trailed by 31 seconds.

“I’m really happy because honestly, I didn’t expect to win,” admitted Giada. “I raced more with my head than my legs; I really wanted to bring home this nice result. It was a somewhat atypical XCC, tough, so more suited to my strengths. The victory gives me great confidence, looking ahead to tomorrow but especially to the European Championships in Romania.”

Meanwhile, Avondetto did well to outpace Gioele Bertolini and Nadir Colledani in the final sprint towards the finish line. The Piedmontese athlete completed his race in 27’02”.

“It was a rather controlled race; every lap we tried to push on the climbs, but then on the subsequent descent, we ended up slowing down and catching our breath, regrouping,” recounted Avondetto. “In the last lap, I managed to gain a small gap, and at that point, I just kept pushing, managing to maintain that small distance. I'm very happy for this Italian title.”
