Wilier-Vittoria MTB Factory Team had a fantastic start to the Andalucia Bike Race 2024. In the second stage of the renowned Spanish stage race, Samuele Porro and Fabian Rabensteiner crossed the finish line in Jaén first, stopping the clock at 2h59’10".
After numerous attacks and counterattacks, the stage was decided in a sprint between the Wilier-Vittoria team and Canyon team riders, with Porro cleverly making his move and keeping Rabensteiner protected.
"Great result!" Porro exclaimed. "It was a tough battle throughout the stage, first with attacks from Canyon, then Buff Megamo, and finally us after the last refreshment. However, we played our cards right in the sprint, and the sensations are excellent. The weather should also improve in the coming days. We need to continue on this path.”
The Wilier-Vittoria pair is currently second in the overall standings, trailing the leaders, Marc Stutzman and Andreas Seewald, by 8 seconds. Rabensteiner added, "There's already great understanding with Samuele. We almost communicate without the need to speak, and I'm sure this will be useful in crucial moments. Starting the season like this, after a long winter of preparation, is a satisfying achievement.”
Positive signals also came from Daniel Geismayr, who, alongside Jakob Dorigoni, secured double third-place finishes in the first two stages. The Austrian, who left the race with unpleasant feelings last year, now holds the third position in the overall standings, 1'30" behind the leading Canyon pair.
