Wilier-Vittoria: Avondetto Claims the Italian XCO Title on Montello

The Italian XCO champion's jersey will remain in the Wilier-Vittoria MTB Factory Team for another year. Simone Avondetto delivered a commanding performance to win the Italian National Championships on the Montello, capping off a day in which the team dominated the racing from start to finish.

The Piedmont rider made his move from the opening laps, breaking away alongside teammate and defending champion Luca Braidot. As the race unfolded, Avondetto forged ahead on his own, while the experienced Friulian managed his effort and gradually slipped back, nevertheless confirming his improving form. Juri Zanotti completed a memorable day for Wilier-Vittoria by taking second place, 1:20 behind the winner, while Braidot crossed the line fourth, 2:22 adrift.

"I felt really strong today," said XCO World silver medallist Avondetto. "I decided to push hard right from the start to make the race as selective as possible. Once I found myself alone at the front, I focused on managing my advantage without taking unnecessary risks, keeping everything under control until the finish. Winning the Italian Championships is always something special. Wearing the Tricolore jersey throughout the coming season will be a huge honour. I'm especially happy that the title stays within the team, and I'll do my best to represent it proudly in the races ahead."

There was more good news from Canada, where Ella MacPhee claimed the Elite XCC national title, before finishing runner-up in the XCO race.
