After 83 kilometers, the European Championship came down to a tight sprint finish. Gold was claimed by German rider Baum, with Fabian Rabensteiner securing an impressive third place.
Fabian earned his third European podium, completing his personal medal collection following a title win in the Czech Republic in 2022 and a silver medal in France last year. The Italian led the race nearly from start to finish, alongside German Lukas Baum, the new European champion, and Spaniard David Valero Serrano, who both crossed the finish line ahead of him in Viborg.
"I had a fantastic race, nearly flawless, and stayed in the lead group throughout. I never had to chase down any competitors", said Rabensteiner. "I made a decisive move at the end because I knew I was likely to be beaten in a sprint, but a rider in the technical section impacted my attack and prevented me from breaking away from the others. This is the third consecutive year I’ve finished on the podium, and I’m truly delighted with this result".
The next event for the Wilier Vittoria Mtb Factory Team is the XCO World Championship in Andorra on August 28, where our athletes will be competing with their respective national teams.
