The Wilier Vittoria MTB Factory Team's Marathon group continues to shine and entertain. The latest display of their prowess came at the Dolomiti Superbike in Villabassa, where Samuele Porro crossed the finish line first, followed closely by Fabian Rabensteiner, showcasing their strength and class once again.
On the 123 km course with 3400 meters of elevation gain, the team executed their strategy perfectly, leveraging their numerical advantage in the final part of the race. Much credit for the victory also goes to Daniel Geismayr, who, after working hard for his teammates, secured a commendable 7th place.
“I am very happy. Today we had a great rival in Hector Paez,” said Porro. “After a tactical first part of the race, we needed to put him in difficulty. So, after the Baranci GPM, Rabensteiner broke away on the descent. Paez made a mistake trying to follow him, and we took advantage of it. Geismayr pulled hard on the flat section to launch us towards the final climb. Fabian and I played our cards right: I followed De Cosmo on the climb, then Fabian caught up on the descent, and together we made the difference. Finishing together was wonderful.”
“A huge thanks to Geismayr, who did an incredible job,” added Rabensteiner. “He sacrificed his ambitions for us, and we felt obliged to finish strong. I felt great, defended well on the climb, and caught up with Porro and De Cosmo on the descent. We’re heading home with a 1-2 finish that’s great for morale.”
