The weekend just gone in Les Gets was, results-wise, the best of the season so far for the Wilier-Vittoria MTB Factory Team. And there is no doubt who deserves the spotlight: Gustav Heby Pedersen. After winning the XCC on Friday, the young Dane raised his arms in victory again on Sunday, claiming the XCO after another outstanding performance.

It was Pedersen’s first-ever XCO World Cup victory, achieved aboard a Wilier featuring the new Innovation Lab livery, which will be officially unveiled to the public tomorrow. His brilliant double in Les Gets also moves him up to 4th place in the overall World Cup standings. With the World Championships in Val di Sole just a few days away, he could hardly have found his best form at a better time.

“It was incredibly tough. At one point I even lost contact with the riders at the very front,” said Gustav. “But I managed to get back, and from there the finale became very tactical. I knew I had to save as much energy as possible and then give everything at the end. At one point I just told myself, ‘Let’s go!’ and made my move. I put in two really hard accelerations and it worked. I’m really happy—the form is there and so is the confidence heading into the World Championships.”
