The 2024 UCI World Championships officially kick off today in Pal Arinsal, Andorra. The Wilier-Vittoria MTB Factory Team will be represented by many athletes, who, wearing their national team jerseys, are ready to give it their all in the XCO and XCC races.
The championship, which will conclude on Sunday, September 1st, actually begins this afternoon with events that include the Team Relay, where Gustav Heby Pedersen will try to surprise everyone with his Danish team. On Friday, the short track event will take place on a highly technical 1.1 km circuit in the La Caubella ski area. Representing Italy will be Simone Avondetto and Elian Paccagnella, with the latter competing in the U23 category, while Ginia Lara Caluori will race for Switzerland in the U23s.
The main event is set for Sunday, September 1st, with the XCO races on a 4 km course that winds from the La Caubella central area to the famous Planell track. Alongside European champion Avondetto, Paccagnella, and Caluori, Gustav Pedersen (U23) will also return to the race, joined by his sister Sofie Heby Pedersen, while British elite rider Cameron Orr will also compete.
"As the World Championships in Andorra begin, I can’t help but feel immense pride seeing how far these athletes have come," said Marco Trentin, general manager of Wilier-Vittoria. "I’m confident they will give their all in this important event, representing their countries with pride. A special thanks goes to the staff who have supported the team with great professionalism throughout the season."
For this occasion, the Wilier-Vittoria riders will debut Miche's new K1 RD wheels, making their first appearance in one of the most prestigious events of the year. "We are incredibly proud to officially introduce these new wheels, which enhance our Race Division department," said Gregory Girard, CEO of Miche. "The market has been rewarding us with strong sales in the high-end segment, and we are therefore very focused on developing this type of component. These wheels require a long development process, and we must also thank the Wilier Vittoria team, who have been a great help in this case. They tested dozens of prototypes with various technical solutions and provided us with valuable feedback that allowed us to achieve a result beyond our initial expectations. We wish all the Wilier Vittoria athletes the best of luck as they officially use these wheels for the first time at the XCO World Championships in Andorra."
